334753 2005-03-16 19:44:00 I searched around the forum and couldnt find anything exactly what I'm having trouble with.
I just got a new computer and continued using the same slaved hard drive as before (formatted in ntfs i believe, western digital 60gb), there is no os on this drive, just files - a lot of files.
I set-up the jumpers, got it connected with the other hard drive, and boot up... i check bios, it reads ... i go into xp and see that it's not showing up in the explorer. i check the device manager, and it shows up on there as well.

so im not sure how to explore it. that should automatically happen i thought.

any suggestions!!

334754 2005-03-16 19:54:00 Go into control panel / admin tools/computer management / disk management .

Whats that slave hdd say here?? Does it give the size?? Does it say unallocated??

334755 2005-03-16 20:01:00 okay, it's not showing up there at all...
it's only showing the primary. if it's reading in bios, and under device manager, why not here?

(thanks for the quick response btw)

334757 2005-03-16 20:14:00 So you put the new hdd in as primary slave??

And there's 2 hard drives in the system now, right?

Was it Primary slave u put on AUTO in the BIOS?

Umm how did u format the slave hdd?? before if u cant see it now??

Whats on the secondary ide master and slave connection?? Anything? Like a cd / cd burner / dvd??

334758 2005-03-16 20:23:00 the new hdd is in primary master (ntfs)... this is where my os is, brand new hdd.
(i then set jumper to primary master w/ slave present)

i put my old hdd (no os on it, just files, ntfs) as primary slave (jumper set to slave)

the secondary ide master is my cd-rom, there is no secondary slave.

i checked the bios and both hdd's are on auto.

334759 2005-03-16 20:31:00 OK Change the master primary, just to Master (MA), NOT with slave present .

It should pick up the slave hdd then .

I dont think it'll matter, if u just put it to Master . I can't say I've ever seen or jumpered a Master Primary hdd to Master with Slave present, but the slave still works .

Just make sure the slave is jumpered to SL

334760 2005-03-16 20:51:00 WD drives have odd jumpering. You have to differentiate between Single drive or Master with Slave (or use cable select). PaulD (232)
334761 2005-03-16 21:03:00 i tried it with the jumper removed on the primary master, and with the jumper set to slave on the primary slave...
still no results.

(i did try the jumper setting on master w/ slave present, but that didnt work)

i also tried both hdd's with cable select.... nothing.

this is getting ridiculous.

334762 2005-03-16 21:11:00 Put the jumper back on the MA pins on the Master . . . And jumper the slave to SL .

Are u sure primary master/slave IDE are on AUTO in the BIOS??

When u reboot, does the post screen show BOTH hdd's on the screen?

Maybe the IDE cable u have is stuffed?? The IDE cable u have at the mo . .

If u have a spare IDE cable, connect it .

Has the IDE connection/cable thats there now, got a blue connector at one end?? If it has, is the blue connection on the motherboard end??
