335140 2005-03-18 23:42:00 I would start with the basic setup, if you need more power go for the firmware upgrade 10 or 20 US I think. Before you spend a couple of hundred on a booster you would want to trial one first(just in case it dosent work). But reading the firmware update information looks as there is a huge power increase avaliable.

What you don't understand is that it is directional. The standard linksys antennas are omni and are less than 6 or 7 dbi... It simply won't work. Simply boosting the power doesn't have a huge effect on range.. And antennas don't have to be that expensive - I made mine out of cans for less than $35 (including cables which are the expensive part)
