334956 2005-03-17 02:34:00 I've been spending so much time at a friend's place repairing their PC problems I almost live there. They are on Xtra Jetstream Fast, using a router.

What's the possibility of doing software maintenance, upgrades etc via a prog such as PCAnywhere? I'm told by Xtra that their IP address changes daily and this could be a hindrance. Any good prog suggestions, tips etc?

Appreciation & thanks :)

334957 2005-03-17 03:03:00 What versions of Windows are both PCs running? If Windows XP you could use Remote Assistance to help. It would be better using something like PCAnywhere or VNC though. FoxyMX (5)

Well you can fix the IP address problem, free by getting a Dynamic DNS account . www . dyndns . com offers them . What it does is you sign up for a subdomain eg mydomain . dyndns . com . You then install a small updater onto your pc which constantly keeps that mydomain . dyndns . com pointing to your IP no matter how often it changes .

You could instal a VNCServer such as TightVNC, UltraVNC and that way be able to physically control his PC from home, just as if you were using XP Pro's remote desktop feature .
