335513 2005-03-18 19:32:00  Hi, I just wanted to know if there is a way to remove items in the startup section of msconfig, cause some of the programs I uninstalled, but still are there. Christopher (365)
335514 2005-03-18 19:34:00 Yup under the startup tab, after u type in msconfig. Just untick the entries u think are no longer installed. And reboot.

Or whatever it is, it maybe under start/all programs/startup menu.

335517 2005-03-18 19:49:00 If uninstalled programs are still listed in the startup list (even if not ticked), then you might need to remove the old references to those programs from the registry. You can use a registry cleaner for this. CCleaner (http://www.ccleaner.com/) has been recommended many times on this forum. See if this helps. :) Jen (38)

Just fyi, cCleaner doesn't remove the msconfig entries - pretty sure I read ages ago somewhere that it has to be done manually.

I prefer Registry Mechanic. I've got to say that , I paid for it.

335521 2005-03-19 01:38:00 Kelly has a neat little program called "Clear Disabled Items From MSconfig
Start Up" located at www.kellys-korner-xp.com It is
located at line 148 on the right side. This might be what you need.

335522 2005-03-19 01:43:00 Don't know why you are using MSCONFIG to do this job, this program is far better:

www.mlin.net

I have used it to disable startup programs since I have been using computers, not one problem so far.
