| 335212 | 2005-03-17 21:36:00 | Limited upgrading is laptops. I've had 4 laptops of all my own computers, I never owned any PCs. PCs are bigger but they are upgradable. Vid card nope. My thinkpad has a 4MB card!! Even if you can upgrade it it lacks details anyway .. the graphics just wont look nice. You may be able to upgrade the processor if its designed properly the RAM and PC Cards and maybe the mini pci if you haven't yet got a modem+ethernet and some may also have a expansion slot for wifi. The more modular laptops has removable bays, the most being IBM like 2nd hdd, batt, cdrw, dvdrw, cdr, dvdr, zip, super floppy but most guys prob do fine with just a dvdrw or just a cdrw or just a cdr or dvdr and do the hard work at the pc. The only way is buy another PC or laptop. Really. I've had a 486, PI, PII and now PIII laptop. Latter 3 all IBMs. First was Tosh. IMHO unless you on business a laptop is not really needed, just get a PC which is modular and cheaper and faster and travel with just a cellphone or a pocket pc or palm. Pple shouldn't consider laptops on travel anyway, cyber cafes makes more sense and portable hdds for digicams make more sense for that usage. If you wanting to play games and do big file editing like video/sound/video a PC should be anyway. If say you have a P3 and wanna play a good game, just upgrade the vid card, much easier to do than buy a new system. My laptop has the RAM, the hdd, the CPU but not the vid card. I can run it but MS Flight Sim is just 20fps or 40fps in the cockpit but the detail is just not there, it looks like the graphics from a 1997 Fighter Jet game. Thou the preview aircraft screen looks quite nice before the flight is launched. Laptops prob do fit the mass market thou (laptop sales is increasing the last tiem i read). But those pple are happy with office apps and with the net or maybe play the odd chess, tetris or lemmings... play a DVD movie or burn a DVD/CD for achiving... New laptops should be able to play some these latest games but not in full resolution if you really want but you just have to replace them too regularly .. |
