Maybe u need a different ide cable for the cd... Have u got one??

Its got a blue connection on the motherboard end.

Try putting the cd on Master. And change it to Master in the BIOS.

See if it makes any diff.

335625 2005-03-20 05:20:00 hi,

the computer had been running fine before this happened so it couldnt be a cable problem could it?

I tried booting from the XP cd and it comes up with the option to install XP or recover a previous installation. If i was to reinstall XP, this would delete all documents, programmes that are on the computer ay?

is there any chance this could be a virus?

thanks,
dave.

335626 2005-03-23 22:51:00 hi guys,

the unknown problem has been sorted. there was somesort of error being created between the graphics card (geforce fx something) and XP SP2. apparently the computer finally just gave up. Back in action now.
