335695 2005-03-19 06:30:00 Hi all

Wondering if anyone can help...I've recently purchased a Panasonic DVD-R with HDD. I can get the recorder to work with the tv, and sky to work with the tv, but I can't get the DVD to recognise the sky channels. (I have sky digital) Can anyone assist?

Thanks v. much

335696 2005-03-19 06:44:00 You are best to connect the Sky decoder via the SCART cable socket or the AV Video and Audio into the DVD recorder.

The Sky decoder output channel will also work, but the antenna must be connected after it has been through the decoder, not before or there will be no sky output channel.

Basically the terrestrial antenna (TV aerial, not the Sky dish) comes in from the antenna, through the Sky decoder, then through the DVD recorder. Auto-tune on the DVD should find the output channel then.

335697 2005-03-19 07:06:00 best bet is to use the AV outputs otherwise if you use the RF output (ie tune a channel to sky) the sound will be in mono which is kinda pointless seeing as you've spent all the $$$ on good recording gear. tweak'e (69)
335698 2005-03-20 05:10:00 Thanks for your responses. I think my set up is ok. To clarify:

I've got the satellite aerial into sky box.
Out of sky box (VCR) goes into AV In (AV4) on DVD (SCART -> AV cable)
Out of sky box (TV) goes into TV Input 2 (SCART -> AV cable)
Out of DVD to TV input 1 (AV cable)

When I try to run the auto set on the dvd it finds no channels and tells me to check my cables.

If I run an rf aerial cable from the wall into the sky box and then to the tv the dvd auto set up finds 1, 2, 3 and C4, so it's obviously finding the channels the TV aerial is picking up. Can I not pick up Sky digital channels? Or am I limited to somehow only being able to record the sky channel currently playing?

Any assistance anyone can offer would be great. I've rung the Sky 'technical' line who "have no idea" and anyway "Sky only supports VCR not DVD"

Cheers

335699 2005-03-20 05:19:00 you are uesing AV . theres is NO channels to tune or "auto setup" . make sure you can play a dvd ok and it shows up on the tv then stop the dvd an switch the input to AV4 . you record AV4 .

anything else is up to the DVD as they all work a littlebit different .

335700 2005-03-20 05:22:00 Doesnt Sky digital use a dish? Not an aerial??

If u have have the normal SKy, you definitely wont get Sky digital.

You cannot receive all the "sky channels" as such via the aerial, but only the channel that the Sky decoder is set to.

This is output on (I think) channel 38? on UHF, and comes out the TV aerial socket on the back of the decoder labelled "To TV". May vary a bit depending on decoder type, there are more than one. As above, this gives lower quality and mono sound.

To record Sky the way you have it set up now simply needs you to set the DVD to record from "SCART" and to set the Sky channel to the program that you want to record.

Ensure you use the SCART cable into your DVD Recorder.
In the DVD recorder you need select the AV channel you plugged it into to get it. For mine I plugged it into AV1 so I use AV1 to record to my Hard Disk. If you plugged it into AV2 then you would need to use AV2.

I don't use the coax cable at all to anything as I watch everything through sky now.

You need to set input to 'scart'/AV4 in the settings if you havn't already...
