336144 2005-03-20 10:26:00 When using Windows ME I had backup all worked out. Have not quite yet got the hang of Windows XP yet however, despite going around in circles for hours.
I cannot find the Outlook Express *.dbx files, despite doing different searches - they all come up with no result.

I tried going around it by going into Outlook Express and going files/export/messages to try to send them to my DVD burner but all it wants to do is to copy them to Outlook.

I went into tools/options/maintenance/store folder to see where the current path is and am told it is C:\documents and settings\user\local settings\application data\....
but when I explore to find that there is no folder with "local settings" listed ??

I feel embarrassed asking what seems so basic a question but where the hell are they please ?
Misty

336145 2005-03-20 10:29:00 Hi Misty

You need to in XP's search advanced options to select "search hidden files and folders" first otherwise they won't be found. :)

336147 2005-03-20 10:41:00 Sorry Jen
I should have said that when I did a search including showing hidden documents
then I was given the same path (as in tools etc,,) ie C:\documents and settings\user\local settings\application data\....
but when I explore it is to find that there is no folder with "local settings" listed.

but when I explore to find that there is no folder with "local settings" listed ??You might need to also select "show hidden folders/files first". To do this, in Windows Explorer go Tools > Folder Options > View. Select "Show hidden files and folders" under the hidden files and folders section.

Of course, silly bugger that I am. Don't know why they have to hide those ones as they were not ever hidden in ME - (unless I changed the settings early in my usage of that OS, 4 years ago).
Many thanks Jen
Misty :)

(Maybe I should not try these things past my bedtime !!)

336150 2005-03-20 10:56:00 Yeah, XP likes to hide things :D. The disappearing menu's is another good one, where XP likes to personalise your menu's and "hide" items you haven't looked at for a while. Jen (38)
