336066 2005-03-20 06:51:00 Yesterday my CD drives worked perfectly. Today autorun starts, but fails to open the CD. One of Windows enigmatic error messages then informs me as follows: 'Disk is not formatted. Windows cannot read from this disk. The disk may be corrupted etc.'
A Norton scan comes up clean, so something must have happened in the system files. The Device Manager tells me that both these devices are working properly.
Does anyone have any ideas?

336067 2005-03-20 06:57:00 and what type of CD would this be Richard - data ? images ? cd-r /rw ? game? KatiMike (242)
336068 2005-03-20 07:44:00 It is Adobe Elements 3 which I installed some time ago. It has a tutorial on it which I wish to look at again. I have tried music disks and PC World disks. Nothing works, all get the same response Richard (739)
336069 2005-03-20 20:38:00 I have just tried a CD formatted by InCD. This worked perfectly. Could this program have anything to do with both drives not recognising a normal CD?

Someone out there must have an answer to my problem.

BTW I can't delete InCD as a message comes up telling me that it is processing a disk.

Cheers

336070 2005-03-20 21:04:00 Open up Task MAnager (Control + Alt + Delete), look at running programmes and processes. Is InCD there? Do you have InCD set to start at startup, is htere an InCD icon in the System Tray? If so, go to InCD's options/settings and uncheck Start at System Start, or some such wording, reboot and see how you get on reading CD's.

Unless you specifically want packet writing capability, (assuming this is a CD writer we are discussing) uninstall InCD or look for an update/patch for the programme.

336071 2005-03-20 21:20:00 What version of Windows are we talking about Richard? 98? XP?

If XP, go to control panel / admin tools / services. Go to Imapi cd burning com service. Click on this, under the general tab, change startup type to disabled.

If if the cd's work then. If they dont turn this back to what it was.

Is CD Creator/Directcd installed as well??? Or try deleting the cd in device manager and reboot. See if that does anything...

336072 2005-03-21 01:56:00 Thanks Murray & Speedy. By removing InCD from the startup I was then able to delete it completely and 'Hey Presto' my drives are back, working properly. Thanks for your help, which to me sums up what this forum is all about.

Cheers
