2005-03-19 22:26:00 | overall folks seem happy with bliink adsl - think there was a recent thread about this . The basic D-link dsl-200 doesn't look that great to me - usb and one connection only possible , no hardware firewall . The sl more expensive dsl 504g has a 4 port switch [ 10/100] and an inbuilt firewall for an extra $50 - looks good to me ... if you require wireless [ or are likely to in the future ] the G604T looks good too - however is $100 more than the 504g ...do you have a network port [ on mobo or an add-on card ] on your computer , or just usb ? :) | KatiMike (242) | |
2005-03-19 22:41:00 | hi thanks for your reply we only have usb ports one comp is a laptop with usb 1 port the other a pc with usb 2 ports | petemit (1134) | |
2005-03-19 22:57:00 | ok , that seems to narrow the field somewhat esp wrt the laptop . What OS are you running on the machines ? Would you feel confident installing a network card into the desktop machine ? Some routers/ switches allow 1x usb and 1 or more 10/100 network connections simultaneously and include a hardware firewall , however the D-link ones don't seem to . I presume the notebook doesn't have wireless capacity ? | KatiMike (242) | |

2005-03-19 23:39:00 | 504G looks good then buddy , would allow both to be connected via ethernet , simultaneously if required . And it has a hardware firewall . the unlimited 256 plan looks like $50 per month IF you have i-hug direct dial tolls , otherwise it's another $10 per month on top . With the cheaper 4G plan - in fact it's 2 G peak / 2 G off-peak ... and peak = 08:00 to midnight !!!!!! ROTFLMAO :D

2005-03-20 00:28:00 | it really depends on what you are going to use the internet for, this is how you decide what plan to go with, to me, if i could get broadband at my place, i would be on bliink. i have heard rumours around my district that a woosh tower will be put up soon  at least someone is doing something about it...... unlike telecom... but lets not go there. enjoy your high speed internet :) | Prescott (11) | |
2005-03-20 04:29:00 | Ive done over 30gb so far this month and still ticking... Im also on the 256kbps unlimited plan :) Can honestly say Im 90% happy. If I had faster upload speeds (only 128kbps ATM) then I'd be happier, but you cant win 'em all....
