335751 2005-03-19 07:48:00 Hi Guys,

Had a DVD player in my mates PC, but everytime we played a DVD it would skip.

Now I put a newer one in which I had at home, and it does the same thing.

The machine specs are XP2800, ASUS A7V600-X, 512MB DDR400RAM, FX5200... 120GB Seagate SATA on channel 1

The software running it on is Windows 2000, and both the Nero Showtime, and windows DVD player skip...

The DVD is sharing IDE channel 0, as a slave to a CDRW....

Cheers

335752 2005-03-19 08:37:00 Make it the master for a start. Pref on its own.
Skipping on what? Movies?

335753 2005-03-19 08:47:00 Indeed, a DVD writer should be master to a CD-RW Edward (31)
335754 2005-03-19 11:03:00 hmm if the master drive is a SATA drive then the DVD could be master on IDE 1 , CDRW master on IDE 2
Not much experience c ASUS boards - however shouldn't the SATA drive [ if alone ] be plugged into SATA 0 slot on the mobo ?? [ That's how it is on Gigabyte boards ...] :@@:

335755 2005-03-19 15:15:00 Is DMA enabled?

It'll be fine wherever it is on the IDE Channels, just make sure DMA is enabled :)

335756 2005-03-20 11:41:00 its a dvd drive only, and i thort it would be fine being slave too, DMA should be enabled, where do I check that again?

and the DVD drive skips while playing movies, yes.

We tried spiderman two, and it started skipping at scene 3, would progress like a frame every few seconds, tried the spiderman one, and it was fine at scene 3/4.

So changed to the newer drive anyway cos i thort it was some kind of pirate protection but played through scene 3 only to skip later on in the movie...

ghey...

maybe I should just get it on divx, stupid DVD's and the pirate protection crap...

pirate protection makes pirates.... (time to change sig)
