| 335738 | 2005-03-19 08:07:00 | Well all u need for a fax is a faxmodem if u dont want a standalone fax . XP has a fax program as part of it . It maybe good enough . Umm getting a fast PC doesnt mean you'll get fast surfing . You'll need broadband, wireless, or something if you want to download faster than 56k . Will you be getting another version of XP, besides the one u have . Since you're meant to get XP for each PC? Not too sure which LCD you wld get . Some do have tuners in them . Depends on how much u want to spend on the LCD . And whether u want to record programs off the tuner, which I think u cant do, if its an LCD with built in tuner . And whether u want a P4 or AMD 32 or 64 system as well . And DVD burners are pretty cheap these days . Depends on whether u want a normal DVD burner, or a dual layer burner . And whether you want a system as is, or whether u want to make it yourself . |

| 335740 | 2005-03-19 11:16:00 | well a good 19" LCD with 8 ms refresh rate could cost about $700 to $1000 eg www.ascent.co.nz or maybe a 17" would do [ about the same size image as a 19" CRT ] for only $500 www.ascent.co.nz would leave a few spare $$ for the fast 'puter ... :thumbs: |

| 335742 | 2005-03-19 11:59:00 | as for 'fast for surfing' .......well any old 233mhz will be a damn sight faster, (FAST !) than a P4 3.0ghz if you have jetstream on the 233 and a modem on the P4............. | drcspy (146) | ||

The whole forum is like that. There were a few proper suggestions though. The Ascent link here is good to start - go to the PCBuilder tab on their website, start with one of their pre-chosen systems, and amend the components until it fits the budget and taste in brands etc. |

| 335745 | 2005-03-20 06:11:00 | Didn't you like any of the suggestions you already got? www.trademe.co.nz Well the person on that who suggested a 120Gb hard drive did not look very hard at what was needed. Lots of word and some digital photos - why would that size of hard drive be needed ??? Frossy seems to have done the best thing by switching his/her query to PressF1 (or am I overlooking something ?)
