335747 2005-03-20 07:32:00 Hi frossy13

You seem to have a pretty good idea of what you would like to do with your new computer, and for your budget you should have no trouble finding one to your specifications (although your 19" LCD will be your biggest cost). Take your list to at least three local computer shops and ask them to give you a quote on a machine which will suit your purposes. You will need to include XP in your price, as unless you already have an unused copy you cannot install one XP licence on two machines. Ask them to also include all the specifications of the machine components. If you don't know what PC shops to go to, post back here with what area you are from and someone might be able to give you some suggestions of reputable places.

Then come back here and post your quotes and we will be able to advise what is the best deal.

Your planned usage of the computer (emailing, surfing, Office work and some digital images) will not really require a power or gaming type machine, so if you plan it right you may have enough left out of your budget to get ADSL setup which will give you your faster surfing. :)

335749 2005-03-20 08:29:00 Well the person on that who suggested a 120Gb hard drive did not look very hard at what was needed. Lots of word and some digital photos - why would that size of hard drive be needed ??? Frossy seems to have done the best thing by switching his/her query to PressF1 (or am I overlooking something ?)
Misty
It probably doesn't - maybe that guy just likes 120Gb HDDs, theres not a big diff in price between them now though, well until you go up the next size again.

335750 2005-03-20 15:19:00 True, it is. The whole forum is like that. There were a few proper suggestions though.
The Ascent link here is good to start - go to the PCBuilder tab on their website, start with one of their pre-chosen systems, and amend the components until it fits the budget and taste in brands etc.

cheers pctek :)
yep Ascent looks good...
