| 336005 | 2005-03-20 03:03:00 | WXP Home, Office2000Pro Windows couldn't open an Emailed text file (meeting minutes). Offers to try and open it in another program. Tried Adobe, but forgot to uncheck the Always open ....bit, and I'm stuck with Adobe, ie. can't try anything else. Not really a problem this case but. I've noticed before check box Defaults to true. Can I change the Default to false somewhere? TIA Don |

| 336006 | 2005-03-20 03:16:00 | Did u save the email first?? Before opening it?? And what format is the attachment?? txt? pdf? doc? In XP, go to My Computer, tools/folder options/file types. Go down to whichever extension u want changed. Highlight it and click on change and select the program. |

| 336008 | 2005-03-20 07:02:00 | Mmmmm, Sorry people, I didn't say 'attatchment' No I didn't save it, just double clicked, got unrecognised file type, or similar msg. then followed the offering to find alternative program. That screen shows a list of programs to try, including Adobe, which I clicked but forgot the checkbox bottom left which defaults to true, 'always use this ... , so that now, whatever way I click the attachment icon, it opens Odobe, which is no good. I'm not concerned about the file, she can send it again as .doc What I want to do is change the Default in the above screen to default false? Don |

| 336009 | 2005-03-20 07:06:00 | You still do the same as the previous posts, whether its an attachment or not to change the program to open whatever file . Or delete the extension as shown how in the previous posts . Or if the program u want to use is installed open the prefs or options in it, and select whatever format u want it to open . |

A gialog box will open and from there you can select which program will be the default. ;) Right, but having select Adobe, and having left the checkbox ticked, for 'Always open ...files with this program' I can't get back to this dialoge, to hopefully change the default, in Properties perhaps, of the checkbox for future? Not worried about the attachment, it's been re sent using Word. |

| 336013 | 2005-03-20 16:12:00 | Hey Don, Find that file, hold shift and right click and the Open With menu should show and you might be able to get back to that file association, or you do what was suggested, go into your Folder Options, the File Association tag I think, search for the extension of that file and remove the Open program that is set.
