336231 2005-03-20 19:31:00 Ok this is my first time getting buying an additional hardrive so bear with me...Well I am pretty sure my computer uses IDE connection or ATA....because I used Everest and the program stated so..... My comp is also around 3.5 years old... Well I was going to buy somethign from bestbuy....160 GB hardrive internal for $39.99 and I looked under the description and it stated "Ultra ATA"....would this hardrive work on my computer..

An ATA 133 interface would be better than the 100 of that drive but it will depend on the speed of your motherboards interface (ATA 66, 100, 133), or if you plan on upgrading your comp within the next year or so, and would wish to move one or more of the drives over. Really ..... $39.99 for 160GB HDD? The link you provided shows it as $129.99 and that is US currency. Where are you getting it for $39.99 and in NZ$???? :confused:

336234 2005-03-21 01:32:00 Bigmit37 is most likely in the US. The ad mentions mail in rebates up to $90 ($129.99 - 90 = $39.99) :-)

Drive rotational speed (7200rpm or 5400rpm) is a better indicator of speed than ATA interface numbers, no individual drive transfers at anything like ATA speeds.
