336600 2005-03-22 00:34:00 having carefully chosen a good quality economical printer (Canon S600 )
I omitted to use it often enough and let it sit with near empty tanks ...
Now I realise they probably need to at least do a test page once a week to keep the juices flowing...

So despite fresh ink and endless 'deep clean' cycles etc its just barely getting ink on the page...
do I have to bin it ?!
or is there some magic solvent ?

cheers
Pete

336601 2005-03-22 00:44:00 Sometimes a window cleaner containing diluted ammonia is needed. Have a look here for some ideas www.weink.com PaulD (232)

I would be reluctant to use ammonia or any other acid or strong alkali.

Warm water, and isopropyl alcohol are much safer solvents.

Don't rub the head. Access might be a problem... perhaps a wad of cotton wool soaked in IPA or warm water or a cotton bud can be pressed up from the bottom.

336603 2005-03-22 03:35:00 If you ever need to overcome your reluctance, "Windex" is the most common brand of this type of window cleaner referred to in cures for inkjet clogging. By all means try water first. PaulD (232)
336604 2005-03-22 03:58:00 I’ve had Canon Printers that have cranked up first time after 6 months sitting idle .

If you’re sure you have ink, (Canon had a habit of only partially filling the cartridges that come with the printer) then fold and wet a handy towel and leave the print head sitting on it overnight . You should have an inky handy towel come morning and the problem solved .

Cheers

Don't give up on the 'night' might take 3 days . Just keep pad wet .
Water dosn't hurt the electronics, but dry b4 use .
