| 336514 | 2005-03-21 10:54:00 | I get the following two options from my boot menu: 1 Windows 2000 Professional 2 Windows 2000 (default) When the machine boots from default I get the following message: "Windows 2000 could not start becuse the following file is missing or corrupt [windows 2000 root]\system32\ntoskrnl.exe Please re-install a copy of this file". When I manually choose to boot from 1, and not the default, everything is fine and windows boots up normally, so I presume that the error message is incorrect. It's a tad irritating to have to baby sit my Pc through its boot up and it prevents me from using other programs that automatically reboot the pc. I have looked hard for solutions, to no avail. :( and have put up with it for the last six months, but, no longer. This problem occured after an aborted installation of windows 2000. I am using win2k, service pack 3. Only one OS on my machine. My boot INI looks like this: [Boot Loader] Timeout=5 Default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional" /fastdetect [Operating Systems] multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional" /fastdetect Both options look the same to me. I can't understand the nature of the problem. Any suggestions? :help: |

| 336515 | 2005-03-21 10:59:00 | delete the part in bold and then ok it Timeout=5 [B]Default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT= "Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional" /fastdetect [Operating Systems] multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional" /fastdetect i think if you delete the part in bold youl be fine, but wait for a reply from someone else to confirm that.. i used to have the same problem, id reinstall windows 2000 and get the option to boot into both and i remember just deleting the line that shows the default option and then after that youd boot normally with no option menu |

| 336516 | 2005-03-21 11:03:00 | [Boot Loader] Timeout=5 Default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional" /fastdetect [Operating Systems] multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional" /fastdetect Both options look the same to me. I can't understand the nature of the problem. Any suggestions? :help: Change "Default" to the second instance of Windows. If it boots into Widows without any problems change the timeout to 0 and it will boot without pausing. It looks like someone started an installation of windows but did not complete it. |

| 336519 | 2005-03-21 23:35:00 | Thanks for the help, both of you. I deleted the default, and now it boots from the correct installation. (It still offers two options though, but this is unimportant). I will now reduce the timeout to 0, as per your suggestions. Thanks a lot. |
