336423 2005-03-21 05:27:00 Hey Guys

Im back (see last thread "Upgrading, need Advice"), and wondering
if I need a special PSU for PCI-E cards? i.e. Geforce 6600GT PCI-E

Thanks

336424 2005-03-21 05:32:00 You don't need a special PSU, just make sure you have one that can provide enough power Agent_24 (57)
336425 2005-03-21 06:54:00 Get one with a high wattage, 500watt for stability (Better safe than sorry).

Some require additional power, but these PCI-E cards have usually got the normal power connection, same as a HDD or Optical drive :)

336427 2005-03-21 09:29:00 Sorry, just found this on nVidia's SLI page

www.nzone.com

"For systems with the 6800 Ultra or 6800 GT, please make sure the power supply also contains a PCI Express auxiliary power supply connector. "

So you may need an special adaptor

"If your power supply does not have a PCI Express auxiliary connector, please contact your graphics board partner for a HDD to PCI Express power adaptor. "

336428 2005-03-21 14:08:00 This should be included with the 6800 series.

As you can see from here, the board uses a standard power connection:
www.pctuning.cz
^^Thats the 5950 :)
Aside from the fact that Pluged_in is after a 6600 GT, see here for what the connectors look like:
www.a1-electronics.net

I know some cards do come with a non-standard connection, but Im pretty sure it was the ATi range. I could be wrong however :)

Chill.
