| 1382385 | 2014-08-24 07:53:00 | I just discovered that Windows Update has changed my settings, again. Changing my choice, "Download and let me decide when to install", to [Automatic Installation], which has caused me problems in the past. Is there a way to stop Windows Update from changing my settings? |

There are also bug fixes, new features, stability and speed improvements etc. If heaven forbid you were using Vista you'd sure as hell want to update it as the original release was horrible and was greatly improved with updates. Similarly if you were running windows 8 and never updated it you wouldn't have all the improvements they've made to address the usability that most people seem to hate so much. 8.1 is better than 8 I struggle to believe you've never updated windows. Never used auto update I could understand. If it works for you though keep at it :) and I'll continue to leave auto update on. |

And will skip Win8. Improvements, well MS would like you to think so. I do use Service Packs. Updates are random, too many cause other issues. And yes thanks, my PC runs just fine. |

| 1382392 | 2014-08-28 20:58:00 | So you claim never to update, then state you use service packs. Which is it? Service packs ARE updates. So you are not maintaining a secure computing environment yourself. Yet you claim the title of pc-tech and present yourself as such to the public? Spare me from imbeciles. |

When Windows 8 first came out, LOTS of techs didn't like it, and wouldn't learn it. There has been more than one time I've gone to a persons place and they have said {insert previous Company} cant be done in Windows 8 -- :illogical REALLY !!! and then you show them how to do what ever it was they were wanting in the first place. ;) Thats why when ever the beta's or previews come out they get downloaded right away and have a play with, find out whats what. :) |

| 1382394 | 2014-08-28 22:34:00 | I have always updated my system and have yet to experience any problems by doing so. There are a lot of significant improvements to Win 8.1that have appeared via updates. I always have an image not more than a week old available should things turn to custard but, so far, it has never been required. I have the firm belief that MS and the like try to fix problems not create them. It would be commercial suicide for them to do otherwise. |
