2014-08-17 03:57:00 | Yesterday my desktop de-powered while in use. refuses to re power. Fans spin up and then stop, cpu light on Asus moboard flashes once, then it all tries again after a few seconds. It still happens when audio card is removed, and power supply has been changed with no avail. Is this more likely to be the cpu or moboard (asus ..P55 ?. We had very near lightning strike the other night (the bang came before the flash!), but it didnt complain then! Piva

2014-08-17 04:07:00 | Could be overheating, if it does turn on then shuts down. It may also be a faulty CPU fan. Whats the model of the mobo?? P what? | Speedy Gonzales (78) | |
2014-08-17 05:42:00 | mobo is P7P55D Asus. The shutdown is effectively instantaneous. Press the powr button , the cpu, soundcard and psu fan spins and then immediately stops. after a few seconds they spin up again and cut out. I fitted new cpu fax a few months ago. | piva (3796) | |
2014-08-17 06:18:00 | Lightning may have caused damage that did not cause a failure immediately. I would try disconnect everything including power\reset buttons, start the board by shorting the power button pins with a screwdriver or such, see if the problem remains.

Looks like that LED can come on if this isnt plugged in Looks like others have had the same prob with the same mobo (www.tomshardware.com) Also make sure the CPU fan is in the right header on the mobo |

2014-08-17 20:22:00 | Thanks all. Will check the suggestions. The cpu fan should be i n the corr4ect header as all was working until yesterday. Only 4 pin cpu power was used on old psu and that was reconnected. More checking after work today. ps a cpu fax is a left handed fan!
