1381871 2014-08-16 03:07:00 My neighbour complains that his Acer laptop has started to run slow. His OS is Win7 service pack 1 and the lappie has 3 GB RAM - yes 3 GB !!!
When I had a look it’s running the following
88 process
26076 Handles
998 Threads
35% Memory
12 % CPU
There are so many process that it’s difficult to know if there any that can be deleted.
Is there a guide that we could use or some such app?
Thanks

1381872 2014-08-16 04:12:00 Tell him/her to install ccleaner on it. Click on advanced so Chrome or whatever wont install.

Then go to tools/startup. Click on save to text file. Get them to give you a copy and paste it here. Do the same for programs that are installed. Tools / uninstall

1381873 2014-08-16 04:13:00 Microsoft's Sysinternals (technet.microsoft.com) diagnostic tools or suite may help. Maybe try Process Explorer and particularly Process Monitor. (technet.microsoft.com) kahawai chaser (3545)
1381874 2014-08-18 00:45:00 Also run Malwarebytes. There could be lots of PUPs (or worse) installed. linw (53)
1381875 2014-09-03 15:16:00 Sometimes laptop runs slowly because it's overheating; use a laptop cooling pad to protect the laptop in the long run. allenbgelinas (17273)
1381876 2014-09-03 22:02:00 Remove Norton, Mcaffe, Vipre etc.
Give it a good clean out (uninstall programs), changes are its been filled up with crapware
Set IE back to default (via control panel) , to disable all the IE toolbars

Run a Malware scanner, Malwarebytes & Hitman Pro

1381877 2014-09-10 11:57:00 Hi, I did experience same problems with my laptop and a friend gave me an advice to delete some irrelevant files because it might be the cause why it run so slow and it do good also. Foremost, I may recommend a reformat when things come to worst. I hope it will work out for you too. reamslovenly (17283)
