| 1368357 | 2014-02-21 03:31:00 | Big events bring out the best 21st February 2014 By Commissioner Peter Marshall I'd like to start by offering some congratulations to staff over recent operations . Firstly, well done to those involved in the policing of major events in Auckland and Wellington last weekend . Wellington hosted the Homegrown music festival and test cricket, and Auckland saw the rugby league Nines at Eden Park, the Rapture music event at Western Springs and the Lantern Festival . The Auckland events attracted around 200,000 people, presenting a huge task for our colleagues . I've received many reports about the professionalism, visibility and overall work of police staff at these events . Police have a significant part to play in relation to crowd management - we should never underestimate how the policing can set the tempo and atmosphere in such circumstances . In our Central District we saw Operation Octopus, a highly successful operation which shut down a cannabis-growing operation and resulted in the seizure of in drug-related assets worth almost half a million dollars . Two people were arrested and a number of marijuana plants were discovered after an eight-month investigation into an Auckland-based drug supplier . Firearms were also seized . Well done to all involved . On Wednesday the full Police Executive, including District Commanders, met at Police National Headquarters for the day . We heard a presentation from Paula Rebstock, in the company of Simon Murdoch . They undertook our Performance Improvement Framework (PIF) review under the auspices of the State Services Commission in 2012, and a follow-up report in November 2013 . Ms Rebstock told us New Zealand Police was in the top 25 percent of government organisations in the context of PIF reviews, which was encouraging given the robust nature of the PIF process . Her comments will be a great assistance to the Police Executive in the future . Please note that the PIF report is now on the Police website - I suggest it will be of interest to many people . I've previously mentioned the Meritorious Service Medal, the new award recognising outstanding service to Police . I'm delighted to say there will be a formal ceremony next month at which the first six recipients will be presented with their MSMs . I contacted the recipients or their families this week and they were clearly honoured and delighted by such recognition . The medal has a Royal warrant and bridges the gap between Commissioner's awards and the higher Royal honours, including the New Zealand Bravery Awards . It can be awarded to any member of staff - both constabulary and non-constabulary - in recognition of an exceptional contribution across the whole range of police work . I look forward to the presentations . Finally, sport is in the air . The organisers of the Australasian Police and Emergency Services Games are looking for participants for the games in Melbourne between 18 and 24 April . You may remember New Zealand Police hosted the games in and around Lower Hutt in March 2012 . Having seen the magnificent performance by many members - including a Police Executive team - in the Police Triathlon at Scorching Bay, Wellington, on Sunday, I'm confident any of our members of staff who make the trip over the Tasman will give our Aussie brothers and sisters a good run for their money . I was happy to leave the triathlon to the experts - and you'll see from the attached picture that the Commissioner remains on call at all times, even on the beach! Stay safe and look after each other . |

| 1368358 | 2014-02-21 18:34:00 | What is the point of these? Is it the cop fan club or something? On Thursday the neighbours over back had one of their parties, at around 11pm the fight started, good I thought, she (tenant) will kick them out now (usually what happens), but no, at the sound of breaking glass I got up and went out. In time to hear the body hit the ground and our fence to break. Then, as they hadn't noticed me at the door, they got torches and were commenting about, where was it, I'll shine the torch etc... This was on my side, one holding a torch over the back fence and one on my section. I reminded them they had been trespassed already and they could leave my premises. They did eventually and then stood on their doorstep shouting abuse etc. We retrieved some items that they had been looking for and noted the fence damage. So I rang the cops. Yes one would be there shortly they said. At 1am I gave up waiting. Next day at lunchtime I rang the station....oh they had been out I was told. No they hadn't.... I was then told that someone would ring me back. I'm still waiting. I tried again late yesterday but got the answer message - we're busy, leave a message..... Meanwhile I talked to the neighbour next to me - we share the damaged fence. He tells me not only did they cut through his place that night, they attempted to break into the car, and had 3 goes at breaking into his house. Drunk as a skunk. While they were there.......talk about dumb. Anyway the items I have are apparently theirs, he's told me to hang on to it for when the cops come see me. I have told him they won't. They never did last time either, nor when neighbour in front was burgled. Either time. Neighbour in front got his own car back, someone in the street where it was located had filmed the thieves too. Cops- when he went down there to them, said it wasn't helpful and they needed a full handprint as well rather than just fingerprints. www.nzherald.co.nz www.police.govt.nz Yes, Henderson police....too busy with their mates..... And I know of another instance of dodginess, letting someone off something because Mr HH turned up, words were spoken and cops then left... Meanwhile I have informed my neighbour of my solutions to the neighbours, he is going to do the same things to prevent future incursions into his place. And we both reported it to Housing Corp, who are far more useful than the cops. |

| 1368359 | 2014-02-26 18:42:00 | I'll let them off a bit now. While I was talking to Housing Corp, I noticed - again! Young guy over at the other neighbours this time, about to climb in a window. So I made a complaint via Police website form about the lack of action and yesterday I had nearly all of them ring me. LOL. One minute none, then next the entire force. Selected one - one of the community cops, and she is putting in action a neighborhood solution for all of us, not just our place. Can't give details but it was very interesting what I found out about things. She also told me that unlike overseas, NZ doesn't have a fingerprint database and it gets sent to Wellington and some poor slog has to do it all manually. Terrible, no wonder it's not much use. |
