Well, Hello?! :(

1368041 2014-02-19 05:32:00 And if it was a possum or a rabbit would anyone even care? It's weird how we decide some animals need to be treated better than others.
Still the judge ruled it was probably an accident so we have to go with that.

1368042 2014-02-19 06:16:00 Yes the guy owned up at the first opportunity. I very much suspect that he is as horrified as anyone else at what he did in a moment of stupidity. It takes a degree of maturity to be able to foresee the probable result of ones actions, hopefully he has learned that. CliveM (6007)

But there is a difference between hunting or even pest control and shooting a pet or any animal really just for thrills.
You know what they say about people who enjoy hurting animals when young....

So its OK to kill your neighbours pets for no good reason ? Thats the distinction here .

Its NOT illegal to trap & kill neighbourhood cats, if done humanely. I dont think a crossbow could be called humane.

Depends where you hit it. Remember crossbows were used in battle before guns with gunpowder..

Nope, unless you get a lucky shot through the brain or heart, the animal could suffer a slow painfull death. Have a looksee at the photo in the linked article : head shot & it ran off with the bolt in its head.
Ever seen a vid of deerhunting with bows...they arnt necessarily killed or even knocked down by 3 or 4 arrows . A bit barbaric really.
What came before what is irrelevant. Pointed sticks & clubs were around before the crossbow, and after .

Perhaps the question should be, when are we going to make xbows, air rifles & high power slingshots only available to those with a gun
license or registered members of the associated clubs. All far to easy to get hold of & abuse, no need for them in cities/surburbs .

1368049 2014-02-20 02:56:00 The point I was trying to make was this is the second recent case where a "Pinko" Judge has let the defendant off because he/she has claimed pity or death threats due to their illegal idiotic actions.

Where is the fair justice?
