1367787 2014-02-17 01:13:00 My g/f's staff of three need to upgrade to either Win 7 or 8. Firstly, two of them are real luddites and will struggle with anything too different from XP, so would 7 or 8.1 be better? And where's the cheapest place to get three licences, or are any PressF1'ers able to off me the best deal?

Thanks.

1367789 2014-02-17 02:12:00 Good point, on the other hand 7 is more like xp so SD slightly less struggle.

Either is fine in my opinion.

1367790 2014-02-17 02:22:00 Another question - when I upgrade to 7 from XP will the programmes and data all be retained? Greg (193)
1367791 2014-02-17 02:41:00 Moi, who hated Windows 8 with a passion has found redemption with Windows 8.1!! Can be set up to boot to desktop like Win7. I like it now, it boots up so quick and runs quite sweetly. I had some problems running the odd program but most software that I use has been upgraded to work with Win8

As pcuser42 said "If they're going to struggle, may as well struggle with the latest"

1367792 2014-02-17 02:41:00 If it's 64 bit Win7 no. Better to do a clean install Speedy Gonzales (78)
1367793 2014-02-17 02:48:00 One other thing to keep in the back of your thoughts -- Depending on how old the Computers are, meaning older hardware, not all PC's running XP will run 8.1

Microsoft changed the hardware requirements between 8 & 8.1, some computers that run W7 or W8 run fine but spit the dummy at 8.1

My older media Center PC is like that and struck a couple of customers PC's run into the same problem. :(

1367795 2014-02-17 03:18:00 Thanks for the inputs. We're going to go with Win7 Upgrade version. Now where to buy a licence for three users and their machines? Greg (193)
