| 1367603 | 2014-02-14 01:41:00 | This is a very interesting video showing the view out the windscreen of a plane landing at the Queenstown, New Zealand airport. If you can, click to watch it in HD. What makes it so interesting is that the airport, which is located in a mountain valley, is completely shrouded in clouds from the altitude the airplane is cruising. There is some extreme "pucker flying" here. Thanks to modern electronics there is no problem but one can only imagine what this operation must have been like before pilots had electronic assistance for this procedure. I sincerely doubt the video was linked to the passengers' displays in the back! www.youtube.com |

| 1367606 | 2014-02-14 03:18:00 | The pilot would really have to have faith in the guidance system and his instruments. The guidance system had it origins in the second world war. At that time you could only fly if the conditions were favourable. The guidance system made a big difference for fighters and bombers. Reading up the history is really fascinating. Thanks Zippity. | 1367607 | 2014-02-14 03:47:00 | Actually passengers can see that...so long as there is no cloud, when you come in to land you do get a good view by the window of it. NZ pilots only....at certain times, they won't let some like Jetstar...too tricky. It's rather exciting when there is wind too. |

It's good to see it again as it is a great video. :cool: My sister is a worse wimp than I when it comes to flying and her daughters told me that when they flew into Queenstown last year for the first time she was hanging onto to one of them for dear life and continually muttering "Oh my God!! Oh my God!!" during the final 10 minutes before landing. They insisted on sitting at the opposite end of the plane from her when flying out. :D :D |

The flight path is from the northeast (upper right hand) turning then descending to the south before turning right for the final approach roughly along Frankton Arm. 5551 :D |
