I wouldn't give 10cents for the scribble logo either, I have done quite a bit of graphics work and although I consider myself to be an enthusiastic amateur, I'm sure I could do better than that recent sad effort, which is nothing more than a childish scribble. Whoever chose that logo has execrable bad taste.

1368241 2014-02-23 21:43:00 Yeah, if I was a shareholder I think it would worry me even more than as a customer if they were wasting money on some ridiculous name change...

If you had some shares you could turn up to the next share holder meeting and complain, maybe even take a share holder vote to get them to revert to the original logo

1368242 2014-02-23 21:46:00 Maybe I'm in the minority given that I'm sure market research etc is carried out for these things but personally I just don't see the point . I don't care what the name is or what the logo looks like - it has zero influence on deciding which ISP I'll use . They can call themselves Telecom, or Spark, or whatever the hell they want, I'll still figure out it's the same company .

Does any of this branding crap truly influence the market? are there people who go with a company just because it has an easily recognisible logo? I guess there must be but not me . I might sometimes pick one of the major players because I think they are more likely to be consistant or stick around, other than that what influences me most is user feedback and price .

Advertising is useful to keep brand awareness up but the only way that influences me is by helping me remember the names of companies to look up and compare . I'm fairly certain Telecom's website will redirect to the new Spark name so that won't matter .

1368243 2014-02-23 21:48:00 x2 Maybe zqwerty would rather be back in the old nanny state days of P&T?

Personally, I think a carefully planned transition has been underway since the Spark name was registered a few years ago, followed by the logo . I see the new name and the logo as complementing each other; such a transition could never have been accomplished if a logo and name change were introduced simultaneously .

It's a fiercely competitive world for the Telcos to gain new customers - and retain them . Image is a vital component of their marketing . "Spark" matched with the logo cuts it . "Telecom" . . . NZ Post, Post & Telegraph don't . Someone mentioned $2m for the cost? I'm not sure that's correct - I would have thought much more .

Whatever the cost ($2m or $2m+) I wouldn't worry too much were I a shareholder looking at the overall budget and ROI .

Some of the most memorable things I was told when I was learning retail marketing some 25 years ago:

Change anything you want about your company but NEVER change your company name or logo . You can re design it as much as you want, but if you change it you loose your brand identity .

The customer is ALWAYS right .
Don't loose your customers, they cost $$$$$$ to buy them back .
Word of mouth referrals are the best and cheapest form of advertising there is .

Actually I quite like the current logo with it's mix of colors. Can't same I'm as thrilled with the name change as basically the Telecom brand name has quite a good reputation and brand loyalty which won't be carried thru to the new name.

1368245 2014-02-23 22:36:00 I dont know why they do it I have been a loyal Telecom customer since it split from the Post Office and I was A loyal Post office customer even jumping to ANZ when they bought out Post Bank. Loyalty starting to wear a bit thin. At least the blue oval has not changed too much since the A came out in 1927. prefect (6291)
1368246 2014-02-24 17:04:00 Their top end plan $99 / Month

20 - 60 Mbps DOWNLOAD 5 - 10 Mbps UPLOAD :sleep

Several places are offering faster than that currently for similar pricing.
I hope no one minds if I ask WT here for naming those places as I am looking for options on reducing costs.;)
