| 1368230 | 2014-02-23 03:33:00 | Furthermore if they can find $2million for a name change they are charging far too much and are making far too much profit I want my money back I don't want it wasted on useless managerial exercises like name changing. | zqwerty (97) | ||

If you don't like the company and believe are being ripped off, you are completely free to select another company provide same service at a cost that you believe be fair. That's the beauty of capitalism: competition/choice.If you want the ability to influence the way a company operates, you will need to become a shareholder. That will involve a significant investment on your part for a company the size of Telecom (although even owning just a few thousand shares will give you the right to speak an AGM)... And I guess, once a shareholder, your attitude might change, since you'll be wanting a return on your investment... And that comes from the profits a company makes. There would be no company in the world who would declare that they are making "too much profit". That's what they are in business for - if they don't make a profit that their shareholders are happy with, the directors will know about it, in no uncertain terms! | johcar (6283) | ||

There is no true competition at all, it's a sham. The electrical supply companies are just the same, it's all a big con game and you've all fallen for it. "As a customer you have no right to complain" - what nonsense. |

| 1368235 | 2014-02-23 06:32:00 | Totally correct  x2 Maybe zqwerty would rather be back in the old nanny state days of P&T? Personally, I think a carefully planned transition has been underway since the Spark name was registered a few years ago, followed by the logo. I see the new name and the logo as complementing each other; such a transition could never have been accomplished if a logo and name change were introduced simultaneously. It's a fiercely competitive world for the Telcos to gain new customers - and retain them. Image is a vital component of their marketing. "Spark" matched with the logo cuts it. "Telecom" ... NZ Post, Post & Telegraph don't. Someone mentioned $2m for the cost? I'm not sure that's correct - I would have thought much more. Whatever the cost ($2m or $2m+) I wouldn't worry too much were I a shareholder looking at the overall budget and ROI. |

Then what do you suggest - each ISP runs a separate fibre out to each of their customers and all the power retailers replicate the local power distribution system exclusively for their customers? Remember VHS vs Beta ? BluRay vs Toshiba? some things are a natural monopoly. It's not the "lack of competition" that's the problem, it's the lack of regulation of that monopoly. |

| 1368237 | 2014-02-23 07:57:00 | Clearly if they are contemplating an expensive name change then we, as customers, are paying far too much if they somehow feel that our money, "their rightful profit", is being well-spent on this totally unnecessary, unneeded gesture towards their ideas of modernization or whatever. As I said before the whole sorry bunch should be fired for wasting our time and more importantly, our money. That's my idea of regulation. |

And if telecom wasn't making a profit you would be happy paying more? |
