1367849 2014-02-18 08:37:00 "within the legal allowance above the speed limit"....................that's news to me.

In the good old days in the UK when there was no open road speed limit, I used to cruise happily at 100mph, sometimes opening up the tap on my Lightingised Shadow to 130mph if someone was foolish enough to try to overtake on the nearside.....those were the days alright...............:)

Let's face it even a Ford Popular could go at 100kmh/60mph, but then of course there wasn't much traffic around most of the time.
If you mean the 1072cc pre 100E engines like e49a and e93a I doubt you could sustain 60 MPH for anymore than a few minutes before doing in a poured big end or a piston leaving its little end.

1367850 2014-02-18 09:29:00 When it comes down to it, it's no-one's job but the police to enforce speed limits.

If you're travelling at the legal limit and some idiot wants to pass, move over and let him. Get a passenger to dial *555 if you're really worried about it, or buy a car camera and record the stupidity.

If someone wants to go faster than you, let them - it's their choice. Just be ready to call 111 when you come around a bend and see them wrapped around a tree...

1367851 2014-02-18 18:46:00 It's not about enforcing anything, and I will move over if it's not a hassle for me, it's about not feeling obliged to. dugimodo (138)

It's actually about being aware of other drivers on the road and just being polite so it's not necessarily something you would do all the time, unless you insist on driving at 5-10kph less than the posted speed limit on the open road most of the time.
Big rig drivers often do it when the traffic is banking up behind them or they indicate to let other drivers know when the road ahead is clear enough to allow for safe passing.

That's why cars have rear vision mirrors and wing mirrors, so that we can see what's going on behind us. Some people just never learned how to use them.

Also, cars are designed to be able to drive at or over 100kph with no issues at all, it's just some drivers who make bad judgements that cause accidents.

1367853 2014-02-18 21:18:00 Perhaps some drivers should stop behaving like a-holes
Pull over to the left lane. Whats the big deal, stop being so arrogant & inconsiderate .
Its 1/2sec of your time .

If someone wants to pass, dont make it harder for them .

prefect, I had a 1952 Prefect one previous owner and the new 1960 107E model, kept both in good running order and 60mph wasn't a hassle over many long trips around the "pig island".

The worst of the Ford models was the 1967 MK11 Cortina we bought second hand, but then it had a large maori as a previous owner, we had to have the bench seating re-sprung, lol.

1367855 2014-02-18 21:32:00 To repeat again a different way, I'm saying I travel at or slightly above the speed limit and will use the right lane when the left lanes are busy and there's a lot of traffic moving on and off the motorway and in that situation I am well aware of drivers that race up behind me and feel no need to move out of the way. If the left lanes are not too busy sure I'll move over, but in no way do I feel I have to and I'm not going to apologise for legally using a lane if it prevents someone from their desire to exceed the speed limit.

A multi lane motorway has no fast lane, it has multiple lanes to allow for a high volume of traffic and the speed limit is the same in all of them. Yes I hate those drivers that sit at 80-90 oblivious to traffic backing up behind them too, that's not what I'm doing. A slow driver in the left lane can cause at least as much chaos as a slow driver in the right but I suppose at least that's where you expect them to be.

It doesn't matter what is safe, or how good a driver you are, or what causes accidents - all irrelevant to the fact that 100KM/h is the legal speed limit and you are not allowed to exceed it so I therefore don't have to get out of your way when I'm already doing for example 105KM/h in the right hand lane of a busy motorway trying to avoid the chaos to my left.

The 107 no probs it was overhead valve sort of a test car for the 105 angle box engine. 100E would probably sustain 60 mph for a little while. The 100E side valve was pretty well a different engine to the previous side valve engines even if it was the same size. It even had a water pump!. I got pissed off my with original e93a engine when it **** a rod on the road to French Pass when I towed it back I threw in a 100E engine different car could even tow my boat (14 ft Parkercraft) 25 hp engine 3 of us including 3 sets of scuba gear used to tow the boat over to Port Underwood. Would have a snowballs chance in hell doing that with the e93a engine.
