1382415 2014-09-04 01:58:00 Does that work with Win 8 product keys?
Haven't had to do it for a while, but recall seeing it wouldn't work in the early days without workarounds.

1382416 2014-09-04 02:12:00 Its still the same, the workaround is you install W8.1 with one of its default or KMS Keys, then once its installed change the Product key to the original W8. :)

Mind you that doesn't work (when I've tried) with Name Brand PC's like HP's, they have the factory COA embedded into the Motherboard so there is no Sticker with the Key.

If thats the case, simply install W8, it automatically puts in the product key, run the approx. 1GB of updates, then upgrade to 8.1 another 3.6 GB, and a few other updates after that. The upgrade to 8.1 seems to have any latest updated included, last one I did only had two other updates afterwards.

1382417 2014-09-04 02:45:00 One of my 2 PC's is newer than the other so it has OEM windows 8.1 on disc whereas previous builds only had the original release OEM windows 8 disc.
I'm pretty sure when I sold off the last 2 pc's (from my litecoin mining experiment) I used the 8.1 disc to re-install windows with the keys from the older machines no problems and it saved having to do so many updates.

1382418 2014-09-04 02:54:00 do you know why? the Windows 8.1 update download to Windows 8 is less than 4GB

Also in terms of lengthy updates being a real bugger, would you prefer that your PC isn't getting updates or?
I am not really sure why but it may be because that new laptop needed a fix to its update system. It probably resulted in doubled up updates.

And, no, I wouldn't prefer no updates. But the update from win 8 is a big one, especially if it is for someone else's NEW comp!
