He's a conman.

So most people think it's just about his warez storage and it's no big deal anyway.

Warez is theft.
You may think because something is on the net it's OK for you to take it without paying.

Think about it, all the authors, movie makers, musicians etc, if it was all OK to do, how would they then make a living? Why would they bother?

You can justify it with all sorts of reasons but ultimately the artist does not receive payment.
End of story.

Who here can honestly say they have never watched anything 'pirated' , be it streaming on youtube or downloaded by a friend
Who can say they have NEVER had or listened to a mp3/music file they didnt actually pay for

Me.
I have watched things on youtube...but nothing commercial that I know of.
I have watched TV on TV1 and TV3s site.
They weren't pirated.

I have music on my PC, a whole 30 songs. I pulled them off my CDs I bought at Marbecks, years ago.

I do not own any movies or music I have not paid for.

I don't download them either.

I have downloaded games once or twice but not lately - I hate Steam.

Even then, they got bought.

I own a ripped (steam removed) copy of Orange Box, however I bought it and a friend removed the steam and repacked it.
I still have the original disks.

Ok?

Regardless of the piracy .con is no better than Madoff, Enron, or any of the other ripoff merchants around.

1368063 2014-02-20 00:15:00 Actually the money for musicians is now in touring.
Thats why some try & give away their music for free. And why they put up their music on their official youtube channels, for free .

When the musicians , authors & actors refund me for rubbish product, that I paid for, then we'll have a level playing ground.
Ever try to return a CD or movie that was so bad you couldn't sit through the whole thing ?

Untill then, I now allways download the album 1st to make sure its worth buying.

btw: removing copy protection & ripping from CD's make you a pirate in the eyes of the industry & some US laws.

1368064 2014-02-20 00:55:00 Every day our Courts are full of people who have allegedly stolen something and are therefore on trial.

However, none of them have been subjected to the “Overkill” displayed in this case.

Hell, even a bust on the most notorious "Gang Pad" doesn’t attract such draconian measures.

Let’s face it, the whole matter was a total and disgraceful botch-up and now they are wasting our money trying to justify their stupidity. :groan:

Have you ever recorded something on tv and kept it after you have watched it? You only have the right to time shift off tv plod (107)

I don't know, but I still have the CDs.
No I have never kept anything recorded on TV, I don't even have a recorder.

The money is in touring because tours can't be pirated.
yet.

And another excuse for not buying music....Marbecks have always had headphones and allowed customers to pre-listen.
And I am aware you can buy individual songs online, not just whole albums...BUY, you know, not download and steal.

1368068 2014-02-20 20:28:00 You have probably listened to copyrighted music that someone used in their Youtube video illegally. Agent_24 (57)

I bet if you had a recorder you would watch something more than once, unless you can honestly say you have never watched something that wasn't worth watching again .

And Musicians make their money out of touring because the music label doesn't take such a high percentage . I remember an interview with Marilyn Manson where he openly said he couldn't care less if people downloaded his music because he made more touring . And he's definitely not the only one saying that . And he's definitely not struggling to pay his power bill either because of it .
