1368254 2014-02-20 20:28:00 What compares with a Mac Air for weight etc.

I like the Mac Air, but would prefer not to have to pay a premium for the name.
I am thinking 10 or 11".

You are paying for design, build quality, features, battery life, OS etc. With other manufactures you are just paying a low price for a cheap imitation.

Are you looking at updating an existing laptop?

Apple are the only manufactures to build their laptops out of aircraft grade aluminium blanks. (appleinsider.com) They are investigating the use of Kevlar.

I think every other PC maker just uses plastic for their laptops.

1368258 2014-02-20 21:59:00 Yeah, features like irreplaceable RAM. That sounds like a feature I want! Agent_24 (57)

I think you are not the only person who was annoyed by that change. But that is how Apple does things.

1368260 2014-02-20 22:42:00 You would be looking at something like the Lenovo X1 Carbon or Asus Zenbook, both are around the same price or more expensive than a MBA. - Those are 13" Options

There is also the Samsung ATIV Smart PC series which I think come in a 10-11" size.

So $2200 (pricespy.co.nz) for a Zen book and the build quality is not as good as the Mac Air.

And $2300 (shopap.lenovo.com) for the Lenovo Carbon

$1589 (www.apple.com) for the MBA.

1368262 2014-02-20 23:06:00 Thanks lads.
I have to ask what is wrong with plastic.
Ya, I would like a lighter unit, the one I have is quite a handful.
This just arrived from PB, seems a good buy?
