| 1367611 | 2014-02-14 04:12:00 | But the minister responsible for Novopay said outdated school business practices are to blame for the high rate of mistakes in the most recent school pay round. Steven Joyce said on Friday the problem is the way schools hire their staff from year to year requires manual changes to their pay details. "The business processes of the education payroll means at the start of the year roughly just under two-thirds of all employees have to have information changed and a lot of that, in fact most of that is manual." Mr Joyce said changing that will require principals and other groups to agree to changes in the way schools work. After all the homework that went into Novopay it seems the schools just aren't doing things right. Or maybe nobody told Novopay that teachers often change jobs, move schools, change responsibilities etc. Obviously they should be hired at one pay rate in one school and stay in that for the next 20 years to allow the pay system to keep up with them. Why is it that the people responsible for Novopay were never made completely aware of the systems and practices in the education sector? The Minister has "discovered" that some practices are not consistent with Novopay! And he wants schools to stop messing around with Novopay - too bad about the teachers and principals trying to do their job as best they can! (I remember when I went to examine a system from a major computer company many, many years ago - they said "you must enter the staff members birthdate as YYYY/MM/DD". WHY? "Well of course you must do that so that the computer can sort them into order!" End of that proposal!) |

There appear to be only a few with problems anyway although I agree it is upsetting for those that are affected. Yet again this is mostly an example of the teachers unions trying to make as much political capital as possible out of the situation |

A few of the employees still got their pay muffed or missed even with the level of support given to novapay by the school. Line em up, shoot em. Those behind the mess I'm referring to, Evidently the front line support are under trained,under-qualified and unsupported. |
