337171 2005-03-23 09:47:00 I have a Genius usb keyboard. Must be about a year old.
It has started disconnecting itself. On first start from cold it works properly. Later on if I reboot the keyboard can not be found. Wriggling the plug and/or putting it in a new hole will get it working.
I have 8 usb ports and it does the same thing in all of them. I have a laser printer, a scanner , a modem and a mouse and they all work in any port . So it looks like a keyboard problem. The usb plug and the cable seem to still lok like newso it could be internal.
The keyboard does not have its own driver,it uses the windows driver. And there is no driver for it on the web page.
Any suggestions appreciated

337172 2005-03-23 09:56:00 I think you diagnosed it yourself already. Faulty KB.
Could try taking it apart and giving it a clean with some isopropyl alcohol.
Otherwise new KB time?

337173 2005-03-23 15:21:00 Hmmm, though unlikely, could your USB port starts to gather dust? This might prevent the connection being made properly between the keyboard and the CPU. Renmoo (66)
337174 2005-03-24 02:54:00 My genius Keyboard is just the same, and has been for some time.

Boot up - I need to wriggle the USB connection.

Restart - it's there.

Leave PC on for a few hours with no action may require a wriggle or reboot to get it going.

Software issue I guess, but it's the same whther I load the software supplied or not, same problem on two PCs, both XP Home with SP2.

It's nearly as bda as the problem I have with my typing and spellking

With fancy compu you have, could I suggest a decent Micrsoft keyboard.
No need to widdle then, though you could begin to feel bloated. ;)

337177 2005-03-24 04:55:00 Jack, you've been playing about in the BIOS settings again, haven't you? :(

Check the keyboard settings again.

Go and wash your mouth out. You used that dirty word.

Then take your (dirty word) keyboard and stuff it up sideways, and I hope it hurts.
