336768 2005-03-22 11:36:00 In Windows I use Cute PDF (www.cutepdf.com) (with ghost script) which allows unlimited conversion with no advertising or watermarks, as mentioned unlike many of the other freebies and, Open Office. In Linux there are any number of PDF file writers/converters, mybe she would like to step into the light ;) Murray P (44)

Primo has no limits or crippling I use it to publish multi page documents dayly
It has no added footers, headers , watermarks, advertising itself or saying "demo version"
Its one of the better ones I've come across and yes I have tried the free ones you refer to that add stuff to your document.
And although I like Open Office and its ability to create pdfs it has one draw back Which is not really its fault, (because Microsoft has not fully published its file standards), it is compatible but not totally with MsOffice applications example import a word document into Open Office that a has lot of formatting and you most likly have to reformat it before publishing to pdf.
And although as much as I hate to say it Microsoft has set itself as the industry standard as far busness applications go (I hope the worm is going to turn soon)

Not as far as I know, unless later versions than my old 97 purchased one do. The very good Adobe equivalent does but that costs serious $$

336772 2005-03-22 20:02:00 beama, I may have to redo my test of PDF utilities. Primo looks like it arrived after my last session. At that point the better ones were also frontends to Ghost/Aladdin but usually had advertising or a small charge. I went with one from Neevia (US$10). The other problem I had was the enthusiasm of contributors to a newsletter for using lots of different fonts. That gave layout problems with some convertors PaulD (232)

You can create 5 PDF documents free, by uploading a word document etc. online.

336774 2005-03-23 06:29:00 Many a printer will not appreciate been sent MS punisher files. this is not an industry standard program...Your best bet would be to use a program like pagemaker or indesign, and i know these programs are exspensive, but you can find secondhand versions on trademe for not much and these programs will export to a pdf....
And do remember not all pdfs are created equal, talk to your printer and ask him whatsettings he uses, this will save a lot of heart ache in the future

336775 2005-03-23 09:26:00 Your best bet would be to use a program like pagemaker or indesign, I would suggest that the "best bet" would be to use Adobe Acrobat, as this is the program PDFs come from (originally) and so I would assume would handle the PDFs the best :) Sure it isn't free, but it's the real thing ;) it installs a virtual printer driver so that you can "print" direct from Word (or anything else) into a PDF file, and you can also edit PDF files, which a lot of these other program won't let you do.

336776 2005-03-24 03:51:00 Hi Ex-Westy. Dare i ask if MS Publisher could produce a PDF format? I have just tried the newly installed PrimoPDF with some Publisher 2003 documents and it works perfectly, saving and printing well. Not sure if it would satisfy a commercial printer though. Scouse (83)
336777 2005-03-28 09:31:00 Indesign has distiller built in..I was suggesting an alternative to publisher as it is frowned upon in the printing industry.. plod (107)
