Cheers jams Sleek and slim :illogical Go for robust and meaty. Its a hard drive enclosure not a work of art. You want portability and still ensure your data is kept safe ? Then forget what it looks like and get something that does the job properly. Avoid enclosures that require a mains plug in auxillary powersupply, go for one that has a secondary usb or ps2 pass through powersupply. I use ice brand, (not the lightweight aluminium pretty ones) the armoured plastic ones. |

| 337090 | 2005-03-26 01:46:00 | hey guys. Thanks for your response. i decided to go for a 40 Gig Samsung 2.5" drive, i did say i was wanting a seagate, but this Samsung drive has a 3 year warranty, and that makes me happy. i also picked up a Enclosure made by some people called "BlueGhost" (the internet have never heard of these people) and is made for the IBM travelstar. it works fine on my XP machine. However, im at my Parents place now, and forgot the CD it came with as i have to install drivers for it to work on my parents 98 SE machine. Does anyone know where i can download drivers, or a patch that lets Windows 98 SE recognize Mass Storage Devices via USB ? i have tried the ones that the microsoft website have released, but i dont think they have done anything, not sure if they where the correct ones, Microsoft dont make it easy to let you know what you are doing. any help would be apprciated. Cheers |

| 337092 | 2005-03-26 06:18:00 | Here's some info on WHAT supports Mass Storage . Windows Support and Usbstor . sys Q . What versions of the Windows operating system support USB storage using usbstor . sys as the storage port driver? The following Windows operating systems provide native support for USB mass storage class devices: Windows Server™ 2003 Windows XP Windows 2000 Windows Me USB mass storage class devices are supported by usbstor . sys, which is loaded using Plug and Play (PnP) hardware identifier (HWID) or compatible identifier matching in usbstor . inf . 98 isnt one of the operating systems supported . Only Me,2000,XP, XP Server 2003 . . microsoft . com/whdc/device/storage/usbfaq . mspx" target="_blank">www . microsoft . com and . microsoft . com/whdc/device/storage/usbfaq . mspx" target="_blank">www . microsoft . com So, unless u update to 2000 or one of the others, it wont install a Mass storage device driver . |
