337709 2005-03-24 23:47:00 I was given an old J530BF Mobo and Cyrix MII cpu by a friend as the mobo was considered dead by the technician and had been replaced.

I hooked it up and sure enough there was nothing on screen, and no beeps.

Which in my experience with a slot-1 celeron pointed to a bad/unseated CPU, so I set the jumpers accordingly, chucked in an old pentium 133 and had it running first time

Yesterday I bought an AMD K6-2 500Mhz for some decent speed, and set the jumpers exactly to the manual, and the voltage to 2.2v

Problem is it refuses to boot.... the CPU was advertised as working perfectly, and the trader seems like an honest and reliable type, so I don't really know what to suspect now...

If I put the Pentium back in it runs fine - I also updated the BIOS but no change apart from the obvious.

Does anyone have any ideas at all??

337710 2005-03-24 23:54:00 I've had this problem before with 2 motherboards which were supposed to be able to run amd 500s (both wouldn't) however adjusting the speed down to 400 got them to post and it was plain sailing from then on. the highlander (245)
337711 2005-03-25 00:00:00 what ram is it running and at what speed? tweak'e (69)
337712 2005-03-25 00:14:00 2 sticks of PC100 RAM, running at 100mhz (same as CPU 100mhz x 5.0)

I've also tried running the Ram at 66.8mhz and cpu at 100mhz bus but no change there either

400mhz returns the same result..

337713 2005-03-25 00:26:00 oh, also the CPU has written on it 2.2 CORE/ 3.3 I/O

Should I set the voltage to 2.2 or 3.3?

337714 2005-03-25 02:32:00 Looks like the problem lies with the motherboard...

I put that old MII-300 in a different computer, and it works perfectly fine - So does the K6-2 500 (admittedly underclocked to 266mhz, as that's all the other mobo will go to)

So is it an actual fault with the jetway, or something ive missed, or a ram issue?

I just really don't know....

337715 2005-03-25 02:41:00 they are dual voltage cpu's hence why there are 2 voltages listed. most likly the only one you can change is the 2.2 one which of course should be 2.2.

to change ram speed simply change the FSB to 66mhz. this will also drop the cpu speed. you can also try changing the muliplyer so the cpu runs at 133mhz.

when you say "boot" are you meaning booting so you can see the bios on screen or bootinginto windows/OS ??

also try just one stick of ram and all other cards removed.

337716 2005-03-25 03:02:00 what i mean is that it seems that with any cyrix or amd cpu in it, it refuses to even beep and the screen is blank Agent_24 (57)
