2005-03-24 10:56:00 | Heyas, Ok I have a few queries that I am wanting answered. Hopefully you can help :) First, which is better... Sun Java, or Microsoft VM? I currently use Sun, but have noticed I am getting minor downloader trojans in my java (still trying to work out how they slip past the AV realtime scans.. but oh well). And yes, everytimeI run a system scan, it picks it up, and I have no problems getting rid of them. Next, how do I burn a .iso extension to disc so that the disc works ok (applies to boot disks etc). Full instuctions please, as I have tried a couple of times, and now have a couple of pretty coasters :). Also which software is good for dealing with .iso files? Finally, whats a good CD burning software? Mainly for multisession discs, data backup etc. Up until now I have used CloneCD and XPs stock standard ripping software. I am thinking of NERO, but don't want something thats got too many features than I really need. Thanx

2005-03-24 12:30:00 | Are you talking about burning an iso image which is made to be bootable? If so you need to enable this in your burning software, there should be an option for this somewhere. I havn't ever needed to do this myself so I can't give you more specific information. | SaAB (1292) | |
2005-03-24 12:54:00 | Thanx Beetle Downloaded the latest version of Sun Nero what version? I know they got Reloaded out at the moment, but looks like its got way too much stuff on it I don't need Memtest86+ (as an example) is downloaded as a zip file, which when you open is a .iso file, how do I get it from that .iso file to be a bootable disk? (I tried this once, decided against wasting more disks and downloaded the bootable floppy version, until I know 100% what Im doing) I would rather have it on cd though

2005-03-24 20:50:00 | Yup even tho Nero maybe big, it's a good program . I use it now for most things . Backup, burning to DVD, making Audio CD's . I used to have CD Creator 6 / DirectCD for this, BUT it was causing too many coasters with XP SP2 . So, I removed it completely . That's WHAT u call big . About 780 or so MB! And disabled XP's burning completely . And yup, Sun Java, altho I would still get the update for MS Java, from Beetle's post that I posted there . If your version of MS Java isnt the latest version . And yup, I would use Nero for that iso as well .

Full instuctions please, as I have tried a couple of times, and now have a couple of pretty coasters :). Also which software is good for dealing with .iso files? What software were you using to burn the ISO files? As already mentioned, Nero can can do ISO's, multisessisons, backup's etc which seem to be your requirements. It does do more things but is easy to use. Pity that the Open Source clone of Nero called k3b hasn't been ported to Windows. If you are just wanting an ISO burner at the moment, there is this standalone free program for XP only that you can use called ISO Recorder. It adds a right-click context menu item to burn ISO or create ISO's. You can see how it works here (isorecorder.alexfeinman.com). The author has two versions of his program: Download for XP with SP2, or Server 2003 (isorecorder.alexfeinman.com) - this is a Beta version 2. Download for XP and XP with SP1 (isorecorder.alexfeinman.com) - you will need to scroll down the page for the download link. Note how this original version is installed from a .msi file and the instrucions how to. |
