337629 2005-03-24 22:49:00 Hmm that doesnt sound good. Try d and e and F. If it says invalid again. It may have needed that classes.dat file?

The only thing u can do after this, is to reformat I'm afraid.

And tell ya mom NOT to delete files!

337630 2005-03-24 23:03:00 well i went into D:/ and i typed Fdisk... and i am now at 45 % formatted :) thanks guys! DigitalMessiah (7649)
337631 2005-03-24 23:18:00 got a formatted harddrive... one partition... but how do i install XP on the formatted HD? DigitalMessiah (7649)
337632 2005-03-24 23:23:00 Make it the bootdisk in BIOS. It should be bootable. Altho, if you've installed this XP, you'll be lucky to activate it.

How fast is your mum's computer?? And how much ram is in it?? I hope a lot, coz XP will lag and be as slow as, if it isnt fast enough or it hasnt got enough ram in it.

337633 2005-03-24 23:29:00 she has 320 MB Ram with a 433 MHZ celeron . . . i read on various websites that it is above the minimum requirements . . .

Boot Order:

1 . ATAPI CD-ROM
2 . Floppy
3 . 1st IDE-HDD
4 . Disabled

i think its already set to boot from cd . . . no?
DigitalMessiah (7649)
337634 2005-03-24 23:33:00 Correct it's on cd as the bootdisk at the mo .

After XP has finished installing, change it to 3 the hdd .

So, it boots from the hard drive later .

337635 2005-03-24 23:36:00 i have EZBIOS on my computer . . . with the gateway bios on the system boot . . . if that means anything . . . it gets to Initializing . . . . Hold CTRL to see status screen or boot from floppy . . . and then it says Continuing startup . . . but there is nothing for it to startup . . . so im kind of at a loss on what to do to get the XP Disc to start . .

should i make my cd my PRIMARY master and my hd the secondary master ? or leave it alone?
DigitalMessiah (7649)
337636 2005-03-24 23:41:00 Umm usually if the cd is bootable, it says a message like press any key to continue down the bottom of the POST screen .

Press any key on the keyboard, it should then take u to the install screen .

And let u format etc installl XP .

No leave the cd where it is . If u change the hdd to secondary master it may have probs finding it later .

Where is the cd now? On primary slave?? If so, put it on secondary master, if nothing else is on secondary master or slave .

Also if the cd is on primary slave now, is primary slave on AUTO in the BIOS?

337637 2005-03-24 23:43:00 umm the xp cd i have says Reinstallation cd... usually they arent too literal... but does it mean that it's for REinstalling ONLY? DigitalMessiah (7649)
337638 2005-03-24 23:46:00 Umm, never heard of a reinstallation cd . .

Is it a restore cd for your system??

Did u make/build your system, or buy it as a system??
