2005-03-27 12:55:00 | I haven't noticed a lot of things different between RH9 and FC3, RH9 to FC1 though I was a bit put off, until I tried it out. Currently Fedora Core 3 is my main choice out of all distributions, it'll be hard to persuade me to switch. I have had little if not any trouble with Fedora Core 3, but I would suspect some who would (it's expected). I am eagerly awaiting Fedora Core 4. It's not really Fedora that keeps me tied to it, it's more the configuring and setting up, after understanding SELinux, things became more logical and configuration became an ease, but I believe this is what will happen if you keep at it. | 337822 | 2005-03-29 02:50:00 | I use Mandrake 10, RH9, RH7.2 . I've even got a 486DX-33 running Slackware with the 2.0.9 kernel. I tried to load Fedora on one machine which has ample resources. After half an hour or so the installer decided that the system didn't have enough resources and refused to go any further. Mandrake 10 installed in half an hour on that machine. The only thing I don't like about Mandrake is that some of the toys I wanted were on CD4. Which isn't in the DSE set. :( If Fedora is so "user-fiendly" that it decides it won't install, I won't use it.

2005-03-29 05:33:00 | It depends on what you want out of a distribution though - as I understand it, Yoper is a desktop distribution whereas Fedora is a full distribution with all extras/servers, etc. FC3 installs with all the software I would want including both GNOME and KDE in about 20min. I don't know what they have done, but it is heaps faster than RH9 on the same PC to install. Graham - you must have been unlucky with that install. I have installed FC3 on lots of PCs now and the only time I've had trouble was with SATA - it said at the beginning of the install that it was loading the drivers and when completed, it refused to boot.

2005-03-30 03:01:00 | Every distro I try leads me back to Mandrake, I've been running mandrake 10.1 since last year. Redhat has never configured to my video cards and fedora is carrying on the tradition. Along with no auto configured mounts etc etc I tried SuSe 9.2 and thought it was pretty good except for not being able to get my modem working. Anyway, for those who were disturbed by the DSE set of disks there is a computer magazine available in countdown right now with mandrake 10.1 on their cover DVD (2gig worth they say) No need to worry PC World guys. I only buy this other mag for the cover disks when there's something good on ;)

This post is via Mandrake 9.1... working well if you ask me. |

2005-03-31 03:22:00 | I'd recomend an upgrade to a later version. 9.1 was good but 10 and 10.1 are compiled with a newer version of gcc and, unlike windows, the newer version is faster on the same hardware :D | apparition (3207) | |
2005-03-31 03:49:00 | Fedora never really liked my nVidia graphics card but it was fine if I specified vesa with a generic monitor. Mandrake screwed my partition table three seperate times during install though, so I wasnt a happy chappy :(
