337609 2005-03-24 20:59:00 yes i have given up on the lan with the 98 computer.. i am trying to fix my mom's old 10 gig and she accidently moved Classes.dat into the recycling bin and now NO processes are running after the windows intro.wav no desktop no nothing... i tried putting in my windows xp disc to do a system recovery but it wont boot from cd... how do i access dos or get the cd to boot before hd ... i looked in my setup menu and my ATAPI CD-ROM is set as first boot , floppy as second and HD as 3rd... but im at a loss... any help would be appreciated DigitalMessiah (7649)
337610 2005-03-24 21:19:00 Whats your mom got? 98 or XP?? Classes.dat isnt part of XP.

I just did a search and I couldnt see it.

XP doesnt have DOS like 98 / previous versions.

337611 2005-03-24 21:20:00 this other hard drive the 10 gig has ... dun dun dunnnnnnnn WINDOWS ME!!!! DigitalMessiah (7649)
337612 2005-03-24 21:29:00 You could try system restore, since ME has it. And if it was enabled at the time.

Just dont go back too far!

337613 2005-03-24 21:30:00 how do i access it from outside windows? as i stated i cannot get into windows... apparently the classes.dat was the registry :/ DigitalMessiah (7649)
337614 2005-03-24 21:31:00 lol if it's winME then putting the xp disk in to do a system recovery will NOT work......boot with 98 floppy, you can download a file from www.bootdisk.com and then double clik it it'll write a boot image to floppy.........then after booting type in c: then tap enter
then type in cd windows
then tap enter
then type in cd command then tap enter
then type in scanreg /restore
then tap enter
the system will give you about 5 choices of previous registry versions to go back to try the earliest one........
drcspy (146)
337615 2005-03-24 21:31:00 you could also try scanreg /fix drcspy (146)
337616 2005-03-24 21:33:00 erm this computer im on now does not have a floppy.... DigitalMessiah (7649)
337617 2005-03-24 21:37:00 Now thats a good point! I think the only way is to press F8 when u reboot her PC .

Does ME have a SAFE MODE option?? Or Command prompt?? Press F8 soon after bootup .

See if u can get into SAFE MODE . And see if anything shows up here . If not reboot, and select command prompt after pressing F8 (If its there) . Then we'll have to figure out what to type . . Have u got the Windows ME CD??
