| 338374 | 2005-03-27 02:52:00 | Hi, I just recently bought a WD raptor and am now trying to do a fresh xp installation on it. The problem is that my mobo doesnt seem to detect it no matter what I do. In the bios screen, it just says Master: none and slave: sony dvd-rom. I did everything I was supposed to do, hit F6 during xp install, installed my controller drivers. XP WAS successfully installed. Now, when the windows setup tells me to restart, the bios has the same problem again, not detecting my raptor as the master drive (or at all, for that matter). Since, it doesnt boot from the raptor, the windows setup starts all over again from the install disc. What do I do? I am completely stumped here. I searched pages of forums and support faqs, but I still cant find an answer. I have the 74 gig raptor on a silicon image 3114 controller. My mobo is an asus p4s533-vm with updated bios drivers. Please help me! thanks |

Primary Master, and Slave IDE and Secondary Master/Slave in the BIOS are for IDE devices, NOT SATA devices/hard drives. It just says Master: none This is if the IDE hard drive is on the Primary IDE Master conection. If the Raptor is IDE, then the option in BIOS for Primary Master should be on AUTO. And slave: sony dvd-rom. And slave. If this is on Primary Slave IDE connection, it can stay there, or go on the Secondary IDE connection on the mobo. If u put the DVD on Secondary IDE connection on Master/Slave, put Secondary IDE Master/Slave in the BIOS on AUTO. And take the cd out of the cd rom. And change the bootdisk to the IDE/SATA. So it'll load Windows. This is why its reinstalling Windows. Coz the cd is reinstalling Windows from the CD, if u leave the cd in the cdrom, when u reboot. If the Raptor is SATA, theyre not jumpered. So don't have Master or slave jumpers. And dont have Master or slave in the BIOS either. Just Master. |

| 338376 | 2005-03-27 05:56:00 | yeah...there is no onboard SATA, I'm using a controller, so there is no 3rd or 4th master in my BIOS, only first and second. I'm thinking it might be just a problem with my mobo being too old... |

| 338378 | 2005-03-27 06:03:00 | there IS a menu for the controller, but thats only to set up raid arrays, which i dont need. Yeah, it doesnt really make sense how it works with the installation, but I cant boot from it. I'll try calling asus support next week and ask them |
