338340 2005-03-27 02:19:00 Is it possible to set up firefox so that when you click on exit, it automatically closes, and disconnects from the internet teakonga (3257)
338341 2005-03-27 07:08:00 No, not without using a third party application. IE can close down your internet connections because it is so much intertwined with your OS functions. Firefox is a standalone browser and cannot hook into the OS like that (which is actually a very good thing security wise!).

Having a look around on google, the suggestions are either disconnect manually each time or use a third party application. One such one is D-Con Pro (members.fortunecity.com). Use at own risk. :)

338343 2005-03-27 22:27:00 Thanks for the information - looks like the safe thing to do is stay with a manual operation teakonga (3257)
338344 2005-03-27 23:14:00 My experience has been that D-Con is safe. I had been using Ver 1 just changed to the new one Jen posted above. PaulD (232)
338345 2005-03-28 00:11:00 I am a new Firefox user. Excuse my ignorance but is my computer connected to the internet as soon as I switch on or only after I have clicked on Firefox? How do I disconnect manually? I cannot see any button for this.
Thanks for any help.

338346 2005-03-28 00:22:00 Hi Ian

How are you connecting to the internet - dialup or ADSL? For dialup, you just need to right-click on the connection icon down in the systray (next to clock) and select disconnect. For ADSL as long as the modem is powered on and connected and your computer is running, you are always "online" regardless of whether you have any internet browsers open (this is why firewalls are so important).

338347 2005-03-28 00:47:00 Hi Jen,
Thanks for your prompt reply. I am hooked up to the internet through a WIRED COUNTRY wireless link. I can easily disconnect from it by either switching WIRED COUNTRY to another computer which is not going [the switch is right beside me] or by switching off the power to the WIRED COUNTRY thingamee.
