2005-03-26 23:58:00 | Hello System restore on my WXP sp2 is not working. I have checked in computer management that it is active (under services and applications) and it is started and startup type is set to automatic. However, when I want to check if it is functioninig I get the following message: "SystemRestore Application has encountered a problem and needs to close." Can anybody shed some light on this? Thank you. Edward

2005-03-27 00:24:00 | Found this which may help.... It sounds as if it could be some sort of file or installation corruption. Click Start, Run, and then type SFC /scannow. Have your Windows XP disc on hand to fix files if needed. If this doesn't work, try reinstalling System Restore by finding \Windows\System\SR.INF. Right-click and choose install. (This will erase all existing restore points.)

2005-03-27 01:53:00 | the scanning of files did detect some problems but did not solve the problem. can't find file sr.inf in win/system. I think it's not there. Regards

2005-03-27 20:25:00 | gidday, If your computer is an HP then loading sp2, can disable the system restore. There is a patch on the HP web site to fix the problem. cheers, Robby

2005-03-28 00:43:00 | No, my system is not HP. I suspect this must have something to do with migrating my system from one harddrive to another. I have installed a bigger harddrive in Feb and transferred all data to the new one. Incidentally, System Restore works on the old drive (I have not formatted the old one yet). I have read elsewhere (on other forums) that Norton Products also interfere with this whem migrating drives. I had NIS and N systemworks installed at the time. I have since removed all norton products from both drives. So far nothing has worked.

2005-03-28 00:53:00 | Is there another reliable software package (besides GoBack, which also have problems with W XP) out there should I decide to switch off Sytem Restore completely? | eds (7357) | |
2005-03-28 01:57:00 | As you say, XP does not like GoBack, which I used for years on 98. I certainly would not dismount Restore. Did you try that small download? ;) | Scouse (83) | |

Did you try that small download? ;) Yes, I got hold of it but it is in HTML format. If I add to windows/system file will it work/be recognised? I have added it in HTML format to the system folder. |
