337958 2005-03-25 07:32:00 Hi,

We are about to upgrade our old pentium 266 computer and are looking at the following options that we have received. The computer is used for a small business with about 8 employees and 110 customers.

AMD ATHLON XP 2800 BOX BARTON 333MFSB W/GENUINE AMD COOLING FAN.
MSI Km4m-V Mother Board. With onboard sound and graphics. Integrated with Extra AGP-Slot. 40GB 720RPM Western Digitel. 256 MB DDR400. Dvd Duel layer Writer. 1.44MB FDD Drive. Microsoft Multimedia Keyboard. Optical Mouse. 56K Fax Modem. Norton Antivirus 2005 1 year update.

OPTION 2:
Intel Celeron 2.4 Ghz 533 fsb. Asus all in one motherboard. With onboard sound and graphics. Integrated With Extra AGP-Slot. 40GB 7200RPM Western Digitel. 256 MB DDR400. CD-writer. 1.44MB FDD Drive. Microsoft Multimedia Keyboard. Optical Mouse. 56K Fax Modem. Norton
Antivirus 2005 1 year update.

Or should I consider Pentium 4 3Ghz at about $150 extra?

Either of the other options would fill most business needs.

I think the more important question than what hardware to choose is what software do you want to run on it and will the hardware handle it.

Yes exactly as he says. What is it going to be running. Assuming just the usual MS office etc, the option two. It has the ASUS board which come with a three year warranty.

337962 2005-03-25 08:10:00 Not really a lot of options there. I think the P4 3Ghz would multitask a lot better than the other CPUs mentioned. Make things feel a bit smoother and more responsive. Get some more RAM with it as well. 512MB to a GB. E|im (87)
337963 2005-03-25 08:50:00 If your working to a budget then i would scale back the cpu to a AMD Sempron 2800, double the ram and get a better brand of mobo.... Metla (12)
