337937 2005-03-25 05:53:00 i am trying to connect to my home wireless but all adapters i have tried will not get a good enough singnal strength (they show the network but there are zero bars of signal strength). i have been through 4 now, two linksys one d-com one motorola. the odd part is that a laptop i own with an intel 2200gb wireless connection gets good signal strength.

so now rather than wasting any more time on desktop adapters i thought i would try to find an adapter that allows a mini pci card to plug into a pci card slot and just buy a intel 2200gb wireless mini pci card

the problem with this is that I CANT FIND ONE. all i can find is adapters to connect a pci card to a mini pci slot

DOES ONE OF THESE EXSIST

337940 2005-03-25 06:15:00 Pass as I dont use either.

Does the router say its an Access point as well?

Umm to your other question what cards have u got?? 54/108, or 11mbps?

And whats the router? Wireless I take it?? is this for 11/54, or 108 wireless?

Is the router, 802.11b or 802.11g?

337941 2005-03-25 06:40:00 wireless g acess point wireless of course the laptop works with it(it is in roomates room)

the first linksys adapter was an usb wireless g/b 11/54mbps

that didn't work so i returned it for

linksys a/b/g pci card (i thought with newer technology it might also be more sensitive)

that didn't work so i returned it for

a d-link (not d-com) a/b/g pci card 108 mbps with a antenna on a wire (thought i might be able to get better reception with this antenna)

i was wrong so i returned it for

a motorola b/g witch a tech guy said had the best reception he had seen

wrong again. futher more i know i wouldn't be able to take advantage of the dual band but i thought it might provide more sensitivity/reception. on top of that i think the the acess point is conected to our cable modem with a rj45 100 mbps (right?)

but most importantly, the laptop gets reception, so i want to know if there is an adpater for a pci slot that would allow me to plug in a mini pci card.

337943 2005-03-25 07:09:00 I dont think there is any mini pic that can be worked with a PC .

You can get PCMCIA or PC Cards that can be converted to PCI thou .

337945 2005-04-02 19:30:00 From what you're saying it sounds more like a configuration issue. Is it possible that the network is protected, or that your roommate has locked down his wireless router by MAC address? I believe in that latter situation I have seen networks show up, but with zero bars of reception Jeffclark (7699)
