338047 2005-03-27 09:23:00 having more than 1 virus scanner may give you false virus alerts
In what sense? Anyway, you just achieve 1,111 post. Happy 1111. Cheers :)

338048 2005-03-27 09:34:00 say you run avast and it says that you have no viruses, then you run AVG and it says that, for example that an important system file has a virus,it deletes it and sometimes it causes havoc.

anyway, its not recommended having more than one virus scanner. all you need is a firewall, spyware, adware and virus scanner and all up-to-date of course :) then you should be sorted. I personally like Zonealarm, AVG, Spybot S&D and Adaware

hopefully that makes sense, it was a tad hard to explain. :p

338049 2005-03-28 05:29:00 you shouldnt have more than one virus scanner installed, this can cause problems

I have 4 on my Server PC for Exchange. They all work fine and are suppose to be there.

338052 2005-03-28 07:21:00 The issue being that AV's look for "virus like behavoir", when you have 2 or 3 programs scanning each others work looking for virus like behavior you can run into issues, Only having one installed program active does a bit to get around the conflict, but they still install services that are running in the background, Killing these off pretty much breaks your AV program....making the entire drama a waste of time and effort.

More then one Anti-virus,...not a great idea.

People that thgink its a great idea?....More power to them, Go hard, Maybe one day TVNZ will interview them for the Sunday program...

338053 2005-03-28 09:28:00 To go back to the topic about slowing down in pc, here is my own 2 cent --- The fastest PC is only as fast as its slowest component. e-tim (6875)
338054 2005-03-28 09:50:00 And in most cases, that would have to be the modem.

One thing I'm wondering; have we as humans and computer users become that impatient that the 15 extra seconds [it takes for something to start up because a virus scan] really matters?
