338124 2005-03-26 03:07:00 1. Advantages of Firefox
- you can stick it on a portable usb device
- it doesn't get infected with horrible activex controls
- man cool addons exist that can block ads
- tabbed browsing (even MS want to copy this feature)
- stable
- open source
- not the target of many exploits
- cross platform
- tweakable UI
- faster

2. Advantages of IE
- works with websites that are created by clueless web developers
- security updates pushed out with SUS or windows update
- can run good activex controls
- already installed
- used by many more people i.e. the de facto "standard"
- can be controlled by group policies for deployment

3. Yes of course Firefox release security updates (and IE has many known problems that are unfixed)

4. Well I never browser my local folders with a web browser so it isn't an issue for me. I keep IE6 installed but only use it for testing websites I might develop.

338126 2005-03-26 07:47:00 Well the thing is, the only popups i get are from something on my computer... i have been unable to locate it, and it happens to all my computers user accounts. I have tried clearing all the cookies, temp internet files, tried running a norton AV scan, adaware scan, but it doesnt seem to work. J

You need to kill Windows Messenger, for Win2k and XP, go to Control Panel > Administrative Tasks > Computer Management > Services expand the + and scroll down to Windows Messenger service, double click or right click > Properties and choose Disable in the drop dow box which prabably has it as Automatic.

For info on Windows Services look at this (www.blackviper.com), go to the section that is applicable to your OS.

338128 2005-03-27 11:22:00 Hmm, I just found that certain website does not support Firefox like Yahoo Launch! (http://www.launch.yahoo.com) Cheers :) Renmoo (66)
338129 2005-03-27 12:06:00 Any site that does not support the standards (and IE is not a standard) does not deserve any traffic in my books. If a site does not support the standard it does not get my traffic. mikebartnz (21)
338130 2005-03-28 12:29:00 I've found the best idea is to try out these different browsers (you can even have three running at once if you want to) and see which one you prefer. I like Firefox 1.0.1 it is faster on our slow dial-up country connection than IE or Opera. Use which ever you like, you can always ininstall them if you don't like them. NZer (5495)

Sometimes I use IE for Yahoo Launch, Firefox for viewing forums and MSN Explorer for email purposes. I found that the time for firefox to startup in comparison to IE is slower, though I like the way it organises itself. Cheers :)

That is because most IE is already running in the background.
