CD ROM Drive HL-DT-ST CD-RW GCE-8483B

My CD ROM Drive has disappeared. Not sure when. But I have recently been using a USB cable to download Digital photos from Digital Camera.

When in use the camera mini drive shows as Drive D, which was formerly the CD ROM drive.When the USB cable is disconnected no drive D shows in disk management.

Device Manager gives error code 41 which tells me that the correct drivers are loaded for the CD ROM drive, but the hardware can not be located.

Help please,
Antonia

Remove the camera while you do this and plug it back in later.

Was the cd going before?? Does it get detected by the BIOS when u boot up??

338682 2005-03-28 02:19:00 Have had CD Rom drive disappear when there is a CD in the drive which refuses to eject. Got CD out by rebooting and pressing CD Drive open during reboot. FrankS (257)
338683 2005-03-28 04:28:00 Thank you Speedy Gonzales .

I uninstalled in device manager and rebooted .
This made PC look for new hardware and came up with error Code 19 which points to an error in the Registry .
I googled and came up with an answer that worked for me .

Just in case anyone else strikes the same problem, I quote:

"There are 2 reg keys that screw the device, I removed them both and re-scaned for PnP (or rebooted) after removing the device & all was well . The keys are: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325 -11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} - "Upperfilters" and "Lowerfilters" . You need to use Regit (start>run>regedit) . On different operating systems they can be located at slightly different spots so if you can't find "Upperfilters" and "Lowerfilters" at the above spot do a registry search for them . Also DO A REGISTRY BACKUP first especially if your not used to registry editing . There are web sites that address this issue on the internet but hard to find . "

338685 2005-03-28 12:43:00 Here's what got me up and running again when I had the same problem:

:: first uninstall the hardware in your device manager.

:: then make a new notepad txt document and enter the following into it, as shown:

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}]
"UpperFilters"=-
"LowerFilters"=-

:: then save the text document as NoFilter.reg

:: right click NoFilter.reg and click Merge.

:: then restart your machine.

:: When u boot back up windows will reinstall the hardware and it should work correctly.
