| 338651 | 2005-03-28 00:40:00 | When attempting to delete files, folders, jpegs, programmes, I sometimes get the error message:- 'The recycle bin is invalid' When I receive the option:- 'Do you want to empty the recycle bin?' I have to enter 'no' or else Explorer freezes an I have to reboot the PC. I am operating Win 98 with Norton Utilities. When I switch off 'Norton Protection of the Recycle Bin, the problem still recurs Anu suggestion on how I can cure this problem? |

| 338652 | 2005-03-28 02:20:00 | Welcome to PressF1 :) have you tried to uninstall Norton Utilities? i found this support.microsoft.com but its for win200 and xp so its really no use to you but it does say "This problem is more likely to occur if your computer has drive letters that have been created by using the Subst.exe tool" did you do this? |

I have Norton Utilities installed (2002 version) but I have switch off the Norton Protection for the recycle bin. I can get round the problem by modifying the recycle bin under 'properties' but each time I restart the PC the settings under properties revert to the default values. So:- have you got a fix for the win 98 version (it is a known problem with XP but my problem only occurs with win 98) can you tell me how I can tell the recycle bin to hold the settings I give it on a restart (there must be a key in the registry!!) For your info I have two hard drives in my PC, one with win 98 and the other with XP. The recycle bins on both drives have tabs for both C and D drives and the default setting is 'configure' the bins together with the option of configuring them independently. | 338655 | 2005-08-03 14:35:00 | If more than one drive is present all of them need to have the recycle bin purged. The easiest way is to use Eraser (freeware) available at www.tolvanen.com/eraser/ It's a secure data removal tool which also can clear your recycle bin. After use, your problem should go away. It worked for me! |
