338644 2005-03-27 12:46:00 More info needed.

How do you know its there?,and have you identified it?

Do any of the programs u have used find it,and then say they cant remove it,if so do they give a location?

Have you ditched all the usual places where parasite software likes to take up residence?

temp files under each users local settings,BHO's,Activex controls,IE temp files, temp files in the windows directorty etc etc...Plus removing everything apart from your AV from the startup....

338645 2005-03-27 14:11:00 Disable System Restore and re-do all your scans, then re-enable System Restore. Greg (193)
338646 2005-03-27 20:23:00 Try www.CCleaner.com it is a great little app but you will lose all yr cookies.
That is not a big hassel tho.At least you start with a good clean out.

338648 2005-03-28 13:22:00 Get this program, it will tell you something about who your computer is communicating with.

338649 2005-03-28 15:06:00 another excellent utility is Process Explorer (www.sysinternals.com)

You also want to use hijack this (www.spywareinfo.com) and possibly post the output here.

Just want to clarify this. You are basing the fact you have tracking cookies/spyware on the fact your modem lights are flashing when you are not loading webpages? What sort of modem is this? Do you have an external ADSL or 56K dialup modem? When you are offline, is this just when you have Internet Explorer closed or is this when you have physically disconnected from the internet?

I am trying to make sure we are all on the right track here with the advice being given, as you haven't answered Metla with why/how you think you have spyware on your machine. :)

To track what is leaving your computer, you need a firewall. If you have anything suspicious on your system it will need to ask for permission to get past the firewall and from this permission request, you can see what is trying to gain access to the internet. Two good free firewalls are Agnitum Outpost - (Old Outpost Free) (www.agnitum.com) or ZoneAlarm (free version) (www.zonelabs.com). Install one of those. When any program tries to access the internet for the first time after installing that, you will see a popup message asking whether it should be permitted or denied. Read carefully what program is asking for permission, and if you don't recognised it write it down and report back here with the name of it.
